CONSTITUTION DAY PROGRAM

You are Invited: Constitution Day Program sponsored by the LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF METROPOLITAN PHOENIX

Are Corporations People? ...and is money free speech and protected by the 1st amendment?

Recent court decisions have turned campaign financing on its head. The recent Citizens United v. FEC gave the green light to corporations to spend without limit to elect or oppose candidates for office. How does this affect campaign finance reforms in place at the time? Arizona's Clean Elections program is also in jeopardy because of the court's objection to the use of "matching funds" as part of the system. How will these decisions affect the coming elections? Since they are unpopular among voters, are there any possible remedies--or should there be?
